Goodness

This powerful message challenges us to rethink what it truly means to be good. We often use the word 'good' so casually that it loses its meaning, but Scripture reveals that goodness isn't simply the absence of badness or a checklist item we can master on our own. Drawing from Galatians 5:22 and the fruit of the Spirit, we discover that genuine goodness flows from God's character working through us. The sermon unpacks a profound truth: we don't manufacture goodness, we mirror it. When we're deeply rooted in Jesus, His goodness naturally manifests in our lives. The message confronts our American tendency to view spiritual fruit as a buffet where we pick and choose, reminding us that one missing fruit can damage our testimony. What stands out is the honest acknowledgment that being good doesn't guarantee an easy life. First Peter 2:20 reminds us we may actually suffer for doing good, yet we're called to persevere because just because goodness isn't rewarded immediately doesn't mean it's not recorded eternally. The ultimate goal isn't for people to look at us and say 'what a good person,' but rather 'what a good God.' This shifts our focus from self-improvement to God-reflection, from trying harder to connecting deeper, and from earning approval to displaying His character in a world desperately needing to see authentic goodness in action.
