The Beatitudes Week 3 “Blessed are the meek…”

What does it truly mean to be meek? Most of us hear that word and immediately think of someone who is timid, passive, or simply a pushover. But what if meekness is actually one of the most powerful ways a person can live? In Matthew 5:5, Jesus makes a stunning declaration that the meek will inherit the earth, and unpacking those eleven words opens up a vision of life that runs completely counter to everything the world tells us. We are taught to grab, fight, prove, and control, yet Jesus points us in an entirely different direction. Meekness, as we discover, is not the absence of strength. It is strength surrendered to God. It is the settled confidence of a person who no longer needs to force every outcome because they trust the One who holds every outcome in His hands. This message challenges us to ask ourselves some honest questions: Where are we exhausting ourselves trying to stay in control? Where are we desperate for recognition? And what would it look like to finally loosen our grip, knowing that God has not lost His?
